Anya Miretsky, LMSW (she/her)
Psychotherapist
I believe that positive growth and change are possible for all people and that the unique therapeutic relationship forged between client and therapist is at the heart of successful therapy. I earned a BA in Neuroscience from Amherst College and a Master of Social Work from Yeshiva University. A wealth of life experience between college and graduate school informs my practice of psychotherapy bringing insight to women’s lifecycle issues, struggles in finding oneself through a meaningful career, finding one’s partner, parenting, caring for aging family members as well as grief and loss. I am also a bicultural and bilingual person (Russian) and am interested in the issues surrounding dual cultural identities. Each one of us has the unique answers to move forward with our lives and sometimes small steps open up possibilities that we could not have imagined. With insight into patterns that are not useful to us the road to change becomes possible.
My approach is gentle and non-judgmental, together we can explore how to get past the stuck points in your life and move toward realizing your full potential. I work with people to create a safe space that fosters honesty with oneself and leads to self-acceptance. I have worked with people with depression, anxiety, and trauma and have seen how given support people are able to thrive and excel despite or because of their individual challenges. I bring psychodynamic, humanistic, and strength-based approaches to therapy and also incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to explore automatic thoughts and core beliefs that may be holding you back. I also have a background in Motivational Interviewing, a set of tools to help people explore their values and motivation for change as well as the roadblocks that hold them back.
In my spare time, I enjoy being a visual artist, gardener, and swimmer, all of which allow me to center myself and focus on the beauty of the world around me. I am profoundly optimistic about people, fascinated by each person’s unique path towards fulfillment and meaning.
I am offering telehealth sessions and limited in-person.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
What past clients have to say:
“I had a lot of mental barriers to starting therapy, but after an initial chat with Anya, I felt comfortable getting started. I’m very glad I did because my mental state improved quite a bit, my patience has increased, my temper is much more controlled, the way I interact with friends and family has matured, my relationships have deepened, and in general I’m just more comfortable being me.”
